Loneliness and isolation

Hello what does everybody else do besides watching movies and sleeping when they’re lonely? I have no friends no family no spouse. I’m not interested in a job I’m not mentally well enough to work. I volunteered but something happened that was inappropriate and nobody wanted to hang out in there own time only at volunteer work.

Hi @Peppapig posting and connecting on here is a good one when you're feeling lonely, there's always someone to chat on the forums

I've also found that hobbies have been really helpful in forming connections, for me the best ones have been knitting (which is also just great to do by myself, but has been such a good conversation starter too) and running since I've made myself start going to park run every now and then. Sometimes just being with other people in a group like that can be helpful even if I don't end up talking to anyone

Do you have any hobbies or interests that you might like to explore?

Re: Loneliness and isolation

Hey I don’t have any hobbies or interest no good at drawing no good at sowing wouldn’t be any good at knitting and not willing to learn. No motivation I lack motivation because of my diagnoses schizophrenia. I listen to music, watch movies, sleep. I do have an ndis interview tomorrow I’m hoping they accept me I will go to social gatherings through them and hopefully meet nice people I usually meet people who aren’t at all interested in being my friend.

Re: Loneliness and isolation

Hey @Peppapig

I don't have family either,  but all the people living around me are surprised at how busy I am!

I don't work, I don't volunteer, but most days I have something on whether it be craft group or art class or just this small group of old ladies (and the old and inappropriate male sometimes) having coffee and talking.

I have my schedule and yes there is a fair chunk of tv watching in the evenings but my days are normally full enough with small group activities and community programs.

I personally like the library and go there during school hours just to structure my day a little and get some work done before I get too overwhelmed by children with no idea of what respect our consideration look like.

Re: Loneliness and isolation

@Peppapig good morning..well i hope it is🙏. Hmm..how to get unlonely? Have you tried a gym class? A walking group to get you outside? a book club? If showing up to things by yourself is challenging (i do it but its certainly a challenge,) then have you tried mentally stimulating online games that you can play with a real opponent. I personlly am ok with the computer bot. Real opponents are sometimes at a cost. I feel im connecting with the bot like its a person, lol😄

Re: Loneliness and isolation

hi @Peppapig
it can be hard to find things that are of interest when motivation is low.
i found diamond art good and i found scrapbooking to be good as well.
with scrapbooking i was able to express myself more with finding quotes and images that were relatable even during dark times. i have 2 scrapbooks that were done during some of my really dark times and it really helped to express my isloation, lonliness, sadness and any other emotion that popped up.
i also found chatting on the sane forums to be helpful, even though we cant meet in person there is usually someone around to talk to. i can link you to a few to our social threads if you would like?
