Moving

I'm bearly hanging on, I don't want to move, but mum and dad seem so eager to leave, the rent is going up so we have to leave, it's too expensive to live in our area, so have to leave friends that I have just been able to get comfortable around, I want to cry, but I can't, I'm losing control and I don't know what to do.

Re: Moving

Hi @Cats101

Don't think we've chatted before so nice to meet you.

Sounds like a lot is happening for you at the moment. It's hard when we have things happening that are out of our control. I certainly understand the need to have a good cry, but it just doesn't happen.

Do you have any strategies that normally help?

I find just sitting outside sometimes helps. Just being able to change the scenery. I also try and distract myself by watching tv, playing card games on my phone or the old but tested one of using my 5 senses. If I'm really uptight I'll either punch my pillow or scream into it.

They don't always help me. Sometimes I don't have enough energy to even try them, but sometimes they just do the job.

Oh also, do you journal at all? I like writing out my thoughts on a piece of paper than once I'm done tearing up the paper and throwing it away.

Re: Moving

hey there @Cats101 i'm so sorry that you'll have to move soon, i can hear how upsetting and overwhelming this is for you. going through changes such as these can feel terrifying, but just know, every major change in life feels scary but that feeling doesn't mean it'll end badly. perhaps this change will lead you to meet amazing people too!?

i'm guessing you probably have your current friends' contacts? would visiting them or texting/face-timing be an option?

it's okay to cry, please don't hold back those tears. i hope you find release in it.

we're sitting with you, hoping it all goes okay 💜

Re: Moving

It can be such a scary thing to move, I completely understand and how it can be such a daunting thing. Remember we are in a time that we can connect to others over countless spans of distance, you can always reach out to them.

What we could do, is list what things are concerning us, then, look at the first item and what things can you do to make it work?
-Leaving friends: You can still contact them via the internet or even a friendly phone call. 🙂

I find when panic arises, looking around in your surrounds and finding 5 orange things that you can see and keep each item in your mind as you find the next, this distraction can help ground you.

Another thing that can help is framing it from a the perspective of it's your friend that is having this exact same issue. What would you say to them?

Also it is worth noting that if it helps to make you feel more optimistic, that nervousness and excitement are recorded to be similarly felt emotions.

In any case, we're here to help and listen. 🙂
