Re: Word for the Day - Comfort or Play

Hi everyone Smiley Happy

@outlander, so great you are keeping this going and I like your theme for today. I'll let it mull over in my mind for a little while.

@Bunniekins, I never expected that to be a favourite thing! LOL! Having said that, one of the things I find most annoying about my aging are chin hairs! They are intensely pesky like mosquitoes to me, and I too pluck them out. Even then, they are pesky, as they resist the tweezers at all turns and I can never get rid of them all! I went and had them waxed once and my face was red and stinging for about three days (sensitive skin, again more problematic because of aging, doh!) As I go on having to live with these little mongrels, I am becoming more inclined to just give up on the battle with them and go with the natural flow of my body. They are not that noticable to others as to me, I suppose. And anyway, what can you really do when they resist repression of them at every turn?! I've mostly passed the stage of mourning for my lost youth now, I think, though I might still be in denial. But I am getting more inclined to find all this funny, and it feels better to laugh about it all than cry. Hearing you sister!

@utopia, the first thing I thought of when I read @outlander's theme, was that song. Like @Hope4me also, it was a favourite song when I was a child, and the Sound of Music a favourite musical. Your list of favourite things is beautiful to me, especially: a wood fire; a clear night sky, to view all the stars (for me, preferably in the country); a cool summer breeze; the smile of a baby; and laughter.

Hope to come back later and post when I have given my favourite things some headspace.

Re: Word for the Day - Comfort or Play

My favourite things...

Swimming, preferably in a creek, river or lake. I don't like chlorine.

The garden, particularly when it's all full of flowers and/or fruit. And birds and other wildlife. (Pictured below a baby bluetongue that I found while weeding a couple of years ago. He or she is now a big bluetongue.) It's also special having our own little animals out there- currently two rabbits, two guinea pigs and one chook, who all get excited when they see me weeding. 😉

Music, particularly playing (violin/viola) or singing. And Christmas is a good time for that.

Lovely artworks, both 2D and 3D. Am a potter on "unplanned sabbatical" due to the demands of both being a carer and subsequent depression... will get back to it someday, and meanwhile I'll enjoy other peoples wonderful creations.

Good movies, performances, and good silly over the top fun.

Fixing things. I like being able to take something broken and restore it. I'm currently wearing a skirt that has all sorts of floral patches over assorted holes and persistent stains. I think it's prettier now than it was new. 🙂

Getting out bush, hearing the birds and looking for the tiny native flowers that you step on if you don't watch where your feet are going.

Vintage treasures. Family "heirlooms", and bargains hunted out in op shops or antiqueries, and then displaying and/or using them. I love mixing up our Christmas cake in my big old pottery mixing bowl. It makes it feel like something a bit better than "everyday". (Also see photo.)

Classic and vintage cars and motorbikes. We drive a classic car day to day, and the conversations it starts are great. Our classic motorbike is off the road at present, but I've had some lovely times being pillion on the back behind my Hubby. Wanna learn to ride myself someday.

Re: Word for the Day - Comfort or Play

@Mazarita Hi Mazzy 🙂 when I was in hospital there was another patient there. A woman about my age with about 5 HUGE whiskers on her chin! They were thick and enormous. I would have loved to have gotten stuck into them 😛 she went out one day with a group and came back with her chin all red and whisters gone 😮 Obviously been to a beautician. She looked much better but as I say they were HUGE, THICK whiskers!

I once had a upper lip wax and my skin was so irritated and red I would never do it again either .... I have spent days on the one whisker and the feeling of self satisfaction has been enourmous when I have gotten the lil bugger out :).

Re: Word for the Day - Comfort or Play

Well, @Bunniekins, the theme for today started with a song that included 'whiskers on kittens' as a favourite thing. Seems like we've taken one step further (and grosser!) with whiskers on women! Smiley LOL

Re: Word for the Day - Comfort or Play

For a long time I was allergic to the word "favourite".  I am better with it these days.
