SANE Community Feedback on the Federal Budget - May 2024

Hi SANE Community 

 

We’ve had a flurry of contact today from people sharing their views with us via email on the funding allocation for mental health care and support in the 24-25 Commonwealth Budget.

 

We’d love to hear YOUR thoughts on the initiatives that have been announced and what you think is missing. We’ll be using your feedback to craft our response to government and advocate for what really matters to our community.

Not going to lie, this budget made me quite cross. We've been waiting for meaningful changes to the system since they started 'reforming' it over a year ago but ended up with $160m going towards something which sounds essentially the same as what is already available through SANE and other orgs and the promise of 61 centres with 'walk in' access to psychiatry and psychology. Right. So even though there's a huge lack of these specialties, they're going to find a bunch of them willing to give up their private practices to spend time in a Medicare-funded clinic. Good luck with that!
